The Mid-Prairie High School Choral program has had a busy start to the year! Their first performance was during a beautiful day at the Fall Festival. Both Mixed Choir and Ladies’ Lyrica performed separately, then they combined and performed “A Tribute to the Armed Services,” much to the pleasure of the audience.

The following two weeks were busy for many honor choir students. On Monday, October 2nd, high school and middle school choral students traveled to Camanche to participate in the Conference Honor Choir. They had a great day of music making and performed for a packed gym for an evening concert.

On Sunday, October 8th and Monday, October 9th, the Royal Court Madrigal Choir was at Augustana College in Rock Island. While there, the group received coaching from Prof. Michael Zemek and Dr. Jon Hurty. They rehearsed with choirs from all over the midwest. During the concert, all the individual choirs performed alone, and then combined for a mass choir.

On Saturday, October 21st, Mid-Prairie vocalists Maizy Fugate, Kyra Helmuth, Ty Waters, and Delaney Smith traveled to Washington to audition for the All-State Chorus. Over 540 students auditioned at the Washington site vying for approximately 100 spots. There are six audition sites throughout the state of Iowa, for an overall choir of 600 students. After the initial round of all 540 Washington site students, Maizy Fugate was called back for a second round, which was a great accomplishment. Ty Waters was also called back, and he eventually made it through to be accepted into the All-State Chorus! He will be performing in Ames on Saturday, Nov. 18th at Hilton Coliseum. If you are interested in attending this event, which is the All-State Chorus, All-State Orchestra and All-State Band, you may purchase tickets through Ticket Master.

It would not be possible for our students to attend these events without the support of all the Mid-Prairie Administration and staff. Our Fine Arts Boosters provide financial support for all of these events, so your support of the Fine Arts Boosters is very much appreciated!!
