About Us

The Mid-Prairie Community School District enfolds the cities of Kalona, Wellman, and West Chester, and is conveniently located 15 miles south of Iowa City and Coralville. Our location offers the rich heritage and tradition of our farming communities and a family-friendly atmosphere as well as endless opportunities to experience a large variety of performing arts, recreational activities, cultural and historic attractions, and the thrill of Big Ten Athletics.

Mid-Prairie serves approximately 1800 students in a continuous improvement, technology-rich, and caring learning environment. We believe in using vigorous and relevant curricula that foster higher-order thinking skills, innovation through creative problem-solving, and student collaboration, in order to equip students with a growth mindset and the skills needed for tomorrow's world.

In addition to serving students in our typical kindergarten through twelfth grade classrooms, we offer three and four year old preschool, an Alternative High School, the opportunity for online education with Mid-Prairie Virtual Academy, and a robust Home-School Assistance Program. Mid-Prairie has been consistently and highly recognized nationally and statewide for its preparation of our students for college and the workforce.
