Last week, students in Wendy Allen's fifth grade class learned a little about the history of writing during a collaborative lesson given with Mr. O'Brien the ELL teacher. Students watched a short documentary about the historical beginnings of writing, how it developed over time, and spread throughout the world. Then, students experienced calligraphy writing first hand through brush practice writing Chinese, Arabic, and Western cursive before using brush pens to write their own Haiku compositions.
