On Monday, February 18, 17 MPHS students participated in the River Valley Conference Individual Events Speech Contest. Out of those 17 students, four were given division 1 ratings, and special recognition for their work in these specific categories:

Kyra Helmuth, 1st place in Acting, 2nd place in Musical Theatre
Gavin Frascht, 1st place in Spontaneous Speaking
Lola Knight, 1st place in Expository Address
Elizabeth Meader, 3rd place in Expository Address.

Other students earning division 1 ratings were Annessa Meader, Interpretive Prose; Sierra Mathews, Spontaneous Speaking; Emily Marner, Reviewing and Interpretive Prose; Gavin Frascht, Radio News; Evan Meader, Improv; Olivia Caskey, Acting; Dominic Helmuth, Reviewing, Lola Knight, Acting. 

Students earning a division 2 rating were Liza Siti, Storytelling; Terra Richardson, Spontaneous Speaking and Improv; Evan Meader, Solo Musical Theatre; Eli Van Roekel, Storytelling; Sydnee Griffin, Radio News and After Dinner Speaking; Tristan Novy, Radio News and After Dinner Speaking; Feza Matiyabo, Solo Musical Theatre; Altynai Kabylbekova, Interpretive Poetry; Sierra Mathews, Improv.

On Saturday, February 23, MPHS Speech will travel to Grinnell for District Speech Contest. Those students earning a division 1 rating at Districts will qualify for the State Competition on March 9 at North Scott High School.
