Last weekend, Mid-Prairie High School math teacher, Deidra Baker, attended the 2nd annual Connecting K-12 and Higher Education Conference, held by the University of Iowa College of Education on April 25th and 26th.
Mrs. Baker presented with April Pforts, State Math Consultant with the Iowa Department of Education on STEM Education. Other presenters included Mid-Prairie parents of high school students: Angie Lamb with the University of Iowa and Amanda Humphrey of Kirkwood Community College. This conference focused on connecting high school and college educators to help students successfully transition from high school to post-secondary education. #mphawks

Thank you to John Copping, Supply Chain Manager for Cheerios, who spoke to the 6th-graders about the math he uses to calculate rates for the production of Cheerios. Students calculated how many cases per hour are produced, how many lbs. of Cheerios are produced daily in the Cedar Rapids location, and how many boxes of the new Cheerios Protein line have been sold since being released in January. Thanks for sharing delicious treats and unique facts such as all Gushers, Fruit Rollups, and Fruit by the Foot are produced locally in Cedar Rapids, what a "marbit" is, and that 5.5 million bees are needed to produce Honey Nut Cheerios every year. #mphawks
