Congratulations to MPHS Student of the Week, Lyndon Peak! Lyndon was nominated by Mrs. Baker, "He works super hard in math, and is willing to go out of his comfort zone. He did a great job cleaning up the FFA and other floats after the parade Wednesday and went around with a trash bag picking up candy and trash in the street. He helped Katherine Sieren transport her students outside last Friday for the pep rally and helped Mr. Cortum get breakfasts to kids who need them in the morning. He is always cheerful. " Great work, Lyndon! #mphawks

This week in Mrs. Baker's stats class at MPHS, students learned about correlations and trend lines. Students started by ranking music genres, then compared them with a classmate. The results were graphed and analyzed. Students predicted which pairs could share a playlist on a long road trip, which pairs could not, and which pairs would be hard to tell. Then they calculated Spearman's rank correlation coefficient and learned more about what that r value means. #mphawks

Congratulations to MPHS Student of the Week, Seth Groenewold! Seth was nominated by Mr. Cavanagh, "I asked Seth to help operate the video board at home football games. Not only was Seth willing to help, but he has picked it up very quickly and done a wonderful job. It can be chaotic in the pressbox, and Seth has handled it like a pro. We plan on growing this role into student-led content creation as well. I appreciate Seth's role on Friday nights." Way to go, Seth! #mphawks

This past summer, around 30 Mid-Prairie students attended a fine arts-focused camp.  These camps ranged from Drum Major Marching Band camp, Speech Improvisation camp, Broadway camp in New York, acting in Greece, vocal and acting camps at the University of Iowa and ICON, Dorian Camp at Luther College, and singing in cathedrals in England, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.  The MP Fine Arts Boosters highly encourage students to strengthen their skillsets in all areas, and provided almost $5,000 worth of scholarships to these students.

This past school year, the Fine Arts Boosters also: purchased a new bari sax for the high school, purchased a new saxophone case for the middle school, purchased a new euphonium for the high school,  provided the Jazz Band a charter bus for their trip to the State Jazz Competition, portable speakers for the speech team, custom drill for the Marching Band, new wireless microphones and other upgrades to the sound system, costumes for play, musical, color guard and Madrigal; accompanists for contest, pit musicians for musical, multiple meals for students at honor bands, state contests, and more.

We would like to thank everyone who has donated to the FAB in support of these students and activities. We all greatly appreciate everything you have done to help them become better student musicians!
