The Mid-Prairie School District is partnering with Feed the Kids Mid-Prairie and the Kalona Methodist Church to provide food boxes to families in the community with school-aged children. This program will replace the weekend food bags that have been sent home with students in the past. The food boxes will be available for families once a month with pick-up locations at the middle school in Kalona and the high school in Wellman. We are anticipating a start date of September 29th with pick-ups taking place on Wednesday evenings. Parents and/or guardians concerned with food allergies need to be aware that the food boxes may include ingredients such as nuts, soy, wheat, eggs, and milk. The Mid-Prairie School District, Feed the Kids Mid-Prairie, and the Kalona Methodist Church will not assume liability for adverse reactions to food consumed. If you’re interested in the new food program, please click on the link below to complete a Google Form questionnaire by Friday, September 17th. If you have trouble accessing the questionnaire, please contact one of the following counselors for assistance. Additional information will be provided to families signed-up for the program. In Mr. Cavanagh's U.S. History class at MPHS, students have been discussing the military draft during The Great War and how some people opted out of the draft by filing to be a conscientious objector. A few students were drafted from each class, and they had to report to Sergeant Major Cavanagh by the end of the class. They had to participate in “training” of 10 push-ups or write a letter explaining reasons why they shouldn’t have to be drafted. Of the six drafted, 4 did the training and 2 chose to write a letter. They learned about the process of the draft, basic training, flawed IQ Tests, and conscientious objectors. #mphawks #seethestars #seeforyourself
