The University of Iowa Homecoming festivities included three different Mid-Prairie faces in the Homecoming parade and home football game. Megan Uden (MP Middle School Band Director) and Matthew McClellen (MP Alum) both participated in the University of Iowa Alumni (Fossil) Band. They were able to join the University of Iowa Marching Band to celebrate the festivities. Logan McClellen is a freshman this year in the U of I Marching Band.
On Monday, October 6th, 10 Mid-Prairie high school students and eight middle school students participated in the Conference Honor Choir held at West Liberty. They rehearsed all day and presented a fantastic concert that evening. The middle school students were under the direction of Sandy Miller, and the high school students were under the direction of Dr. Jeremy Manternach from the University of Iowa. Each school level sang three songs alone, then combined forces for a treble (high) voices song, a bass (low) voices song, and one final song with all students singing together.
On Tuesday, October 7th, eight ninth graders and three eighth graders traveled to Pella to participate in the Central College Singfest. They rehearsed all day with Dr. Mark Babcock, director of music at Central College. They were also treated to a concert given by the Central College A Cappella Choir, and sang along with those students for the final concert.
Thank you to the Mid-Prairie District for being so supportive of students participating in these events, and to the Mid-Prairie Fine Arts Boosters for their continued support as well!

High school students in the Personal Investments class had the opportunity to meet with local broker/realtor Hayley Hershberger and Jessica Yoder on Monday, Oct. 13th. Students walked through an area home for sale to learn about various aspects of investing in real estate. They are using their walk-through experience, property details, creativity, and math skills to determine what renovations and improvements would be beneficial to the property if used as a rental or flip opportunity. Students are developing a proposal for the 'Scope of Work' they would hypothetically do to this home if they were to invest in it. They will ultimately provide a mathematically supported decision about whether the home would make a good investment option. Mr. Tyler and the students of the Personal Investments class would like to thank Hayley and Jessica for the opportunity provided! #mphawks
