18 members of the Mid-Prairie Speech Team competed in 30 events at the Iowa High School Speech Association's Individual Events Speech Contest at Pekin High School on Saturday, March 1. All 30 events received Division 1 ratings, and will be advancing to the IHSSA's State Individual Events Contest at North Scott High School on Saturday, March 15.

At the IHSSA State Individual Events Speech Contest, each performance will be evaluated by three judges. With the nomination of two of the three judges per event, that student and event will advance to the IHSSA Individual Events All-State Festival on Monday, March 31. Last Friday in math, 6th graders were introduced to solving one-step equations with a variable. They practiced the skill of performing the opposite operation by solving Emoji Equations! #mphawks

On Friday, March 14th, 5th-8th grade students at MPMS will be tie-dying t-shirts orange for Leukemia awareness in support of Keylen Cooper. Students who wish to participate need to bring a pre-washed white t-shirt to their advisory by Friday, March 7th. Donations of pre-washed white t-shirts are appreciated. Donations can be dropped off at the middle school office by March 7th. #mphawks

18 members of the Mid-Prairie Speech Team competed in 30 events at the River Valley Conference Individual Events Speech Contest at Wilton High School on Monday, February 24. At RVC Speech Contests, best in center recognition is awarded. Mid-Prairie earned four best in center awards, six second place in center awards, and two 3rd place in center awards.

The Mid-Prairie Speech Team now has their sights on the upcoming Iowa High School Speech Association's District Individual Events Contest on Saturday, March 1 at Pekin High School. Students earning a Division 1 rating at District Contest will advance to IHSSA State Individual Events Contest on Saturday, March 15 at North Scott High School. Mid-Prairie Community Schools is looking for a crossing guard to start immediately. We have an opening in Kalona and an opening in Wellman. The hours would be 7:30 to 8:20 a.m. and 3:15 to 4 p.m. Hourly wage is $15.38. Please call Teresa Hartley at 319-646-6881 during the hours of 7:45 to 3:45.

On Saturday, February 22 we had 15 Mid-Prairie Middle School students attend the Clear Creek Amana Honor Band. These students spent their Saturday making music with other students from around the area, watching an awesome saxophone quartet, and performing a concert at the end of the day. Great job representing MPMS! #mphawks
