Mrs. Schlabaugh's 5th graders had the opportunity for some fun learning using STEAM bins provided by a grant through the Fund for Academic Excellence. The FAE provides grants to teachers for various hands-on and enriching educational opportunities for students in the classroom. The FAE was originally established by the Class of 1966, but now is sustained through donations from MP alumni and friends of all different classes. If you'd like to learn more about the FAE or how you can support these amazing educational opportunities for students, check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eON0vDd_bT0&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mphawks.org%2F&embeds_referring_origin=https%3Awww.mphawks.org&source_ve_path=MjM4NTE&feature=emb_title

As MPHS Geometry winds up their 3D unit, students have learned about surface area, volume, density, and surface area to volume ratios! Several students remembered how surface area to volume ratios were used to think about cells in biology. Their final project is to design the "best container" for a beverage - maximizing volume for the least amount of surface area and still comfortable to hold! What do you think the "best container" looks like? #mphawks

Last week in MPHS Geometry, students used snap cubes to build a cube puppy, then doubled the size of the puppy to build a snap dog. After calculating surface area and volume for both, it turned out that volume changes even faster than area! Students enjoyed the hands on activities and the opportunity to study 3D concepts! #mphawks

Congratulations to MPHS Student of the Week, Jesse Stultz! Jesse was nominated by Mrs. Puttmann, "Jesse (as well as many students) had a couple of crazy busy weeks with extracurricular activities, including state jazz band competition, band concert, music contest, and soccer games (and probably even more). Through it all he has continued to prioritize his academics. Jesse comes in before school and in Hawk Block to catch up on what he has missed. I'm so proud of his hard work. Jesse is also a kind and considerate classmate. Thanks for being a part of the Mid-Prairie family!" Great work, Jesse! #mphawks

In MPHS geometry last week, students made mobiles by dilating a rectangle by a scale factor smaller than 1. Students measured and made smaller rectangles that were strung together to make cross-sections of a rectangular pyramid. They figured out that the areas of the cross sections change more rapidly than the length and width!! #mphawks

MP East is excited to host Donuts With Grownups on Friday, April 26 from 7-8:30am. Students may bring ONE special adult guest. RSVPs are due Friday, April 12. #mphawks
