Congratulations to Max Kipp (8th grade percussion), Will Snider (8th grade euphonium), and Gwen Wunderlich (7th grade euphonium) for being accepted into the South East Iowa Bandmasters Association Honor Band! Auditions were held this past Saturday at Fairfield High School, and students spent months preparing and practicing. Our students will perform in the SEIBA Honor Band on Saturday, January 21, hosted at and directed by faculty at the University of Iowa. Because Max had the highest audition score out of all the junior high percussionists that auditioned, he will also be performing in the All-Iowa 8th Grade Honor Band. Max will perform alongside the top 8th grade musicians in the state at the Iowa Bandmasters Association Convention in Des Moines in May. #mphawks

We are excited to introduce a new MPHS staff member, Laura Schmitt! Ms. Schmitt is joining Mid-Prairie High School as a school counselor. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from The University of Iowa with minors in American Sign Language and Human Relations. She is currently finishing up the M.A. Counseling program at The University of Northern Iowa. In her free time, she loves to read fiction novels and travel. She often makes trips out to the East Coast to visit family for breaks and vacations. With her minor in American Sign Language, she has become more involved in the Deaf community. She is very passionate about students and getting to see them grow and accomplish their goals. Welcome to MP, Laura! #mphawks

Mid-Prairie parents instructed small groups of fellow parents and teachers in how to make pozole, a popular soup/stew from Mexico. Each family has their own special recipe with unique ingredients and methods for preparing their pozole. At the end, all teachers, parents, and children were able to try three delicious types of pozole, two special hot drinks (hot chocolate and warm punch), and some rosca de reyes for dessert. The children concluded the celebration with a piñata! Thank you to everyone who attended and made this event possible! #mphawks

MP East and West have been learning about the three kings celebration in Spain and Mexico during Spanish class. They have been enjoying hot cocoa and Rosca de los Reyes while watching 3 kings parades, a perfect treat for cold Iowa winter days! #mphawks

MPMS staff and students participated in a holiday coin drive to support Mrs. Billups while she is going through treatments. The MPMS Leadership Team put together a handmade card, photo and the donation to deliver. It made her day and she is beyond grateful! #mphawks
