MPHS student of the week for April 11-15 is Caiden Sellers. Caiden was nominated by his math teacher Mr. Hotz. Mr. Hotz said , "Caiden is in my 2nd block Applied Algebra 1 course. Opening Day for the Mid-Prairie 1st Annual AK-12 Art Show is less than 1 week away! #mphawks

This has been a busy week in geometry at MPHS. We made dilation 3 D mobiles. Then we looked at how scale factors affect length, area, surface area and volume. We were surprised by how much more volume you can get just by doubling the side lengths of a 3D solid. On Friday we compared surface area and volume through the lens of marketing, and compared cans and jumbo cans and discussed why gallons of ice cream come in so many different shapes. We talked about storage and stackability of different shapes of containers in our freezers. Marketing, design, and consumers use geometry so much more than we realize on a regular basis! #mphawks #seethestars #seeforyourself
