Mid-Prairie varsity girls and boys basketball teams sweep Washington tonight! Go Hawks!

The Mid-Prairie Music Department has a busy few months coming up! We would love to invite you to come out and support all our amazing musicians. We start off Music in our Schools Month with the MP High School choirs presenting their Pops & Pie Concert on Thursday, February 29th in the HS cafeteria. Soloists and small groups will start at 6:15pm, and Mixed Choir & Lyrica will start at 8:00pm. - On Monday, March 4th, the 6th grade band, 7th/8th grade band, and HS Jazz Band will present their concert at 7:15pm in the MS gym. - On Tuesday, March 5th, the HS Jazz Band will perform at the University of Iowa Voxman Music Building at 7:35pm as part of the Jazz Corridor Music Project. - On Thursday, March 7th, you have your choice of two different concerts! The Middle School 6th grade choir, and 7th/8th grade choirs will present their variety show at 7:15pm in the MS gym. There will also be a wide variety of soloists and small ensembles at this concert. The MPCSD Homeschool Strings program will be held at 7:00pm in the HS gym. - After spring break, things heat up again with the HS Band and Jazz Band presenting their Pops Concert on Thursday, March 21st, at 7:15pm in the HS cafeteria. - These students would absolutely love to see you out in the audience supporting them! #mphawks

On January 11th, approximately 70 fifth grade students had their first ever band performance! Mr. Shawn Sandersfeld, their director, has been working with these students since the end of September. Fifth grade students are able to have weekly lessons with Mr. Sandersfeld, and meet as a large group once a week at the end of the school day. They have been working so hard and were very excited to perform for friends and family. It was an absolutely wonderful concert and the students were able to show off all their hard work. They are looking forward to their next performance on Tuesday, April 30th. What a great beginning for their instrumental music careers! #mphawks

With the rescheduling of the January 15th basketball game, Walking Apple Pies will be available THIS FRIDAY, February 2nd! Stop in and grab one before they're gone at the basketball game! All proceeds go toward Prom Grand March & decorations. #mphawks

Congratulations to MPHS Student of the Week, Lukin Rediger! Mrs. Sieren nominated Lukin, "Lukin was a great student to have in physics last semester as he always brought a positive attitude to class and encouraged others during our physics design challenges. Sometimes when the class content was difficult or if his designs didn't work out like he planned, Lukin never let that get him down. Instead, he always used it as motivation to keep trying and continued to push himself as a student!" Great work, Lukin! #mphawks

As second half gets started at the high school, Geometry classes are learning about one of the most important constructions - the perpendicular bisector! Students made a human perpendicular bisector in the hallways, and used geogebra, as well as actual compasses and straight edges, to learn about this tool we use to find the center of segments or distances and make right angles. They are using the skill to think about how to deliver pizzas in Squaresville! #mphawks

On Saturday, January 6th, six middle school band students auditioned for the Southeast Iowa Band Association Honor Band. Students (from over 30 different schools) were required to know and memorize all major scales, plus learn two musical etudes. The audition process is a great way to learn to be an independent musician. Fiona McClellen (alto saxophone) and Danie Bohlen (clarinet) were accepted into the SEIBA Honor Band. They spent all day Saturday, January 20th, at the University of Iowa Voxman School of Music Building rehearsing with other students from southeast Iowa, and gave a sold out performance that evening.
